Ark Sheetmetal Pty Ltd is a small, family owned manufacturing business, specialising in rainwater tanks and custom sheet metal products. It is directed by Peter Ford who took over the business in December 2007, after 24 years in Chassis Design & Development within the Automotive Industry.
What We Do:
Ark Sheetmetal provide solutions to harness and manage rainwater. We also welcome requests for all manner of custom sheetmetal work.
How We Do It:
We will visit to discuss individual rainwater tank installations, to ensure all aspects of manufacture, delivery and installation are considered carefully. Detailed installation quotes are provided. We will take the time required to understand your custom sheet metal project and provide responses and suggestions where appropriate in a friendly and supportive manner.

Ark Sheetmetal offers products and services for residential clients, Building, Plumbing, Electrical and Landscape trades, schools and kindergartens.
Our Vision:
· We see the potential for Melbourne residences to become more drought prepared, self reliant, efficient and cost effective in terms of potable water usage, via rainwater tank installations.
· We see the potential for back or front yard veggie beds/worm farms/chook houses to take the place of ornamental topiary and lawns, with communities/neighbourhoods growing food for their families and sharing the excess.
· We see the potential for a business that can both think creatively with respect to unique or custom requests and provide engineered solutions.

Our Mission:
Ark Sheetmetal has been providing water tanks and custom sheetmetal/rainwater products for over 30 years. We are committed to robust designs, engineered solutions and accurate manufacture in all that we do.
Our History:
Peter has a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering and spent the last 24 years working in the Automotive Industry. 14 years in the Product Engineering Division at Toyota Motor Corporation Australia and the last 10 managing Chassis Development for Prodrive Automotive Technologies Asia Pacific. Peter was looking for a change in lifestyle and one that involved an environmentally-friendly focus. Given Victoria's prolonged drought state, water tank design/manufacture seemed just the thing. The Steely Dam brand name comes from a lifelong passion for Soul, Jazz and R&B piano. Peter plays with Melbourne's Premier Soul outfit, Grand Wazoo.
The business was originally called Lilydale and Disctrict Tankmakers, owned and operated for some 30 years by Steve Jackiw. Steve, whilst retired, is still involved in the business and his wealth of skill, know-how and pragmatic problem solving ability are invaluable.
